Republicans claim to be the "party of family values." Why don’t they act like it?
Last week, conservatives in the Colorado legislature voted party-line against a bill to allow parents to take unpaid leave to attend children's school activities.
But that’s not the worst part. Before the vote, right-wing Rep. Kevin Priola requested that the House Education Committee postpone the vote, due to a doctor's appointment for his own child.
And then Priola voted no.
Rep. Priola should be able to appreciate the difficulty we all face being there for our kids. But not only did Kevin Priola vote against parental leave for school activities, he did so after hypocritically asking to be excused to attend to his own child’s needs.
We demand better from our public officials.
