I’m sure you’ve seen the controversy in Indiana over the passage of a law that could open the door to discrimination against gays and lesbians. These “Right to Discriminate” bills are thinly-disguised attempts to make discrimination legal by abusing the freedom of every American to practice their chosen religion without government interference. Freedom of religion is one of our most fundamental rights as Americans, and that's why it is already protected in the U.S. Constitution.
Unfortunately, some Colorado legislators are fighting to pass legislation in our state similar to Indiana’s. Tell your representative that we won’t let them turn Colorado into Indiana.
It’s a shame that our legislators don’t share these values, but it’s critical they understand that their constituents do! Send a message right now that in Colorado, freedom is a two-way street--and no one is exempt from our laws against discrimination. We’ll deliver your names and comments the General Assembly and the media.
Watching the news out of Indiana in the last few weeks is a sobering reminder that we have to stay vigilant. We’ve won many battles for equality, but the fight isn’t over. Let’s send a strong message right now to our state capitol that equality is the law in Colorado, and there’s no going back.
