UPDATE 8/25/2016: The Supreme Court still has a vacancy.

UPDATE 3/16/2016: President Obama has nominated Judge Merrick Garland to fill the Supreme Court vacancy.

Colorado can’t wait until 2017 for a new Supreme Court Justice.

After the death of right-wing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia last weekend, Republicans led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Colorado's Sen. Cory Gardner declared that “the next President” should nominate Scalia’s successor. Failure to replace Scalia on the court in a timely manner could affect numerous important cases before the court, from collective bargaining rights to abortion access.

After years of obstruction of virtually everything that President Obama has proposed, refusal to confirm a Supreme Court nominee with nearly a year left in the President's term is another perfect example of the right's disregard for their most basic responsibilities.

There is absolutely no good reason why Cory Gardner cannot carry out his constitutional responsibility.

From the 2013 government shutdown to refusing to do their job and fill this Supreme Court vacancy, it’s clear to the voters of Colorado in this election year who is serious about governing. If Republicans won’t do the job, they shouldn’t have the job.
