DENVER — A proposal to criminalize “revenge porn”, when former boyfriends and girlfriends (and husbands and wives) publicize intimate pictures, drew unanimous support from the Colorado House on Monday.

House Bill 1378, will make it a misdemeanor, with fines up to $10,000, for a person aged 18 years or older who posts photos that cause serious emotional distress for the victim.

The bill, after clearing the House on a 65-0 vote Monday, will head to the Senate.

“‘Revenge porn’ is a deplorable practice which torments thousands of women and men across our state and it’s time we took action,” said Rep. Amy Stephens, R-Monument, the bill’s sponsor.

“I’m pleased to see unanimous support in the House for putting a stop to the malicious act of posting intimate and embarrassing photos online for the purposes of causing irreparable harm to victims who never consented to world-wide posting.”
