A little more than two weeks after a disappointing showing in the GOP state assembly in the race to succeed John Suthers as attorney general, Rep. Mark Waller withdrew from the contest on Monday.

“Staying in wouldn’t be the right thing to do moving forward,” Waller, R-Colorado Springs, said.

Waller said he believes the current chief deputy attorney general, Cynthia Coffman, will do just that. Coffman has been in the AG’s office since 2005.

The race now comes down to Coffman and Democrat Don Quick, a former district attorney from Adams and Broomfield counties. Quick secured his party’s nomination this month.
