Some voters served by the West Metro Fire Protection District have received duplicate ballots for the May 6 elections, and the district is asking them to destroy the extra ballot if they received two.

The problem stemmed from West Metro receiving a voter registration list from the county clerk and a property owners list from the assessor’s office.

The software program West Metro used to eliminate duplicate names and and addresses only catches exact matches. So if the listings were different in any way, i.e Michael Smith vs. Mike Smith or P.O Box vs. PO Box, the software did not catch it and sent multiple ballots to the same individual.

“If voters received multiple ballots, they are asked to vote only one ballot and destroy the other,” said West Metro spokeswoman Michelle French.

Voters can either mail their ballot or drop it off at these times and locations.
