Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb on Thursday was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was being evaluated and was in stable condition.

Medical center staff would not immediately say what Webb was being treated for, but he was likely to spend the night as a precautionary measure, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Webb was having lunch at a downtown restaurant Thursday before going to the hospital, an associate said.

Webb, 73, was mayor of Denver for 12 years, leaving office in 2003. He now heads Webb Group International, which is based downtown.

Current Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, through a spokeswoman, said: “My thoughts and prayers are with Mayor Webb. He is a Thunderbolt and a soldier, so I know he will get well soon.”
