HP Enterprise Services has signed a five year, $116.9 million contract with the state for 2016 implementation of a new Colorado Medicaid claim-payment system and for ongoing maintenance and enhancements.

The state department of Health Care Policy and Financing is responsible for overseeing Medicaid and Child Health Plan PLUS benefits. It processes about 44 million claims for about 39,000 providers who serve more than 950,000 clients.

The old claims-processing system was 20 years old — with some components 30 years old — and the department needed to modernize and upgrade to adjust to federal policy changes, department spokesman Marc Williams said.

HP also will integrate the Colorado interChange Medicaid Management Information System with the state’s pharmacy-benefits management, business intelligence and data management systems.
