Lafayette’s Peak to Peak Charter School is the top Colorado high school in U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 rankings, which are based mainly on the percentage of students who take and pass advanced placement exams and on standardized test scores.

Boulder’s Fairview High School also made it into the Top 10 in the state, with a ranking of 3, up from last year’s ranking of 7.

At Peak to Peak, 98 percent of the high school seniors took an advanced placement test and 81 percent passed. On the state reading test, 90 percent scored proficient or advanced. Nationally, Peak to Peak was ranked 66th.

Both Peak to Peak and Fairview earned a “gold” medal for ranking in the Top 500 high schools nationally.

U.S. News collected data on more than 31,242 public high schools in the United States.
