The Mountain States Employers Council, which has assisted employers in Colorado and the region for nearly eight decades, has shortened its name so it can broaden its base.

The non-profit group became just the Employers Council this week, part of a push to grow its membership beyond Colorado, Utah and Arizona, the three states it is currently most active in.

“More and more in this day and age, those members need assistance outside of where their main headquarters are. They have operations in other states,” said Mike Severens, president and CEO of the group.

The Employers Council was started in 1935 by 100 Denver companies following the passage of the National Labor Relations Act, which made it easier for workers to unionize. Currently, the group has 60 employment law attorneys on staff and 70 human resources consultants to assist members. It also provides HR staff training and temporary HR staff.
