LOUISVILLE — With extensive flood repair work still underway at Louisville’s Coal Creek Golf Course, city officials have decided to cancel this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display because of the lack of a proper venue.
Louisville has $16,000 set aside in its 2014 budget to fund the city’s annual fireworks show, which was set to be held at the publicly owned course.
The City Council in February signed off on a $5.15 million contract with a landscaping firm to repair and improve the golf course, which saw between 35 and 40 bunkers washed out and 14 greens damaged, and suffered various other damage during last September’s deluge.
The large, irrigated space had been an ideal setting for Fourth of July sparks to fly, but since it will remain closed to the public until spring 2015, Louisville’s elected leaders this week directed city staff to forgo Fourth of July planning this year with eyes on a big comeback in the summer of 2015.
