Longmont’s City Council on Tuesday night is to hold a public hearing and consider final action on an ordinance that would expand no-smoking zones outside several city buildings.

The measure, separate versions of which got initial council approval on July 11 and July 25, would ban outdoor smoking in the entire block bounded by Third Avenue, Kimbark Street, Fourth Avenue and Emery Street, including all sidewalks and grassy areas. That block includes the Longmont Civic Center and Longmont Public Library.

The ordinance would also expand the outdoor no-smoking areas around the Longmont Senior Center and the St. Vrain Memorial Building in the 700 block of Longs Peak Avenue.

People ticketed for violating the bans could face fines ranging between $35 and $500.

The ordinance is on the agenda of the council meeting that starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Civic Center council chambers, 350 Kimbark St., Longmont.
