A longtime Denver police detective was issued a summons Wednesday for allegedly using the services of a prostitute in Lakewood last week.
Detective Michael Ryan, 50, was issued a summons for soliciting a prostitute and patronizing a prostitute, said Timmy Marquez, a Lakewood police spokesman
Lakewood patrol officers allegedly witnessed a known prostitute get into Ryan’s personal car while he was off duty on April 10, Marquez said.
The car was stopped by police a short time later, and Ryan identified himself as a Denver cop, Marquez said.
Ryan was detained, but not put under “physical arrest” at that time, Marquez said.
“That is not an uncommon occurrence,” he said. “Sometimes, further investigating needs to be done before an arrest is made or a summons is issued.”
The woman has not yet been charged in the case, police said.
Ryan must appear in Lakewood Municipal Court court at a later date.
Ryan was placed on administrative leave Friday, which will continue pending the outcome of the case, said Raquel Lopez, a Denver police spokeswoman.
