Denver Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Antwan Wilson could soon become the leader of a school district in Oakland.

Board members with the Oakland Unified School District in California will make a final decision on Wilson’s nomination April 23.

Wilson, a former principal at Montbello High, helps lead turnaround initiatives, college and career readiness, alternative schools and student engagement in his current role as assistant superintendent for post-secondary readiness at Denver Public Schools.

“Antwan Wilson is an extraordinary leader.He is a thoughtful and caring advocate for educational equity, and he is an inspiring leader who sets high expectations for all students and then works tirelessly to ensure they have the support they need to succeed in the classroom and in life,” DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg said in a press release from the Oakland school district.

Wilson, a native of Lincoln, Neb., was selected as the finalist for the Oakland job over more than 20 other applicants. He received a bachelor’s degree in history-social science education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and master’s degree in school leadership from Friends University.
