Eight candidates are competing for three open spots on the seven- member West Metro Fire District Board of Directors. One candidate is unopposed.
West Metro Fire Protection District has 247,648 people in its service area and employs 332 full-time firefighters who staff 15 stations over more than 110 square miles.
West Metro is also asking voters for a 3-mill levy property tax increase that if approved means owners of property valued at $300,000 would pay an extra $72 a year in taxes, generating an additional $8.6 million per year for the district.
The 2013 budget was $48.1 million and the district had 25,852 service calls in 2013.
The fire district has posted information about each candidate on its website, westmetrofire.org.
