LOVELAND — Rep. Jared Polis stopped in Loveland on Tuesday to talk shop with the founders of a natural skin-care company on a day that he was highlighting startup businesses.
The 2nd District’s Democratic congressman toured several small Northern Colorado companies as part of Startup Day Across America, which he launched four years ago with Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif. The two founded the Congressional Caucus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
In a converted garage behind the downtown Loveland home of one of the founders of Herbal Heart Apothecary, Polis looked over the raw herbs and the machinery the three women use to create their skin-care products.
“On this day, we celebrate startups like Herbal Heart because tomorrow’s great companies are today’s startups,” he said. “That’s really the spirit of American entrepreneurship. At the same time, we seek to educate policymakers about any barriers to their growth.”
The three launched their company two years ago and sell their products online, through spas and at gift shops. Starting with formulations developed by a local herbalist over the past 20 years, they create infusions using some herbs grown in their own gardens but mostly from certified organic suppliers across the country, they said.
