A University of Colorado police officer accused of stalking a dispatcher at the police department was formally charged on Tuesday with one count of felony stalking.

Michael Dodson, who is a sergeant with the CU Police Department, appeared in Boulder County Court at Boulder County Jail on Tuesday afternoon with his attorney, Michael Lowe.

Dodson, 59, is expected back in court on June 26 at 9 a.m. for a status conference. Under his bond conditions, he is not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim in the case, a 24-year-old woman.

He is currently on administrative leave at the police department, where he has worked since 1996.

Prosecutors allege that the dispatcher began working at the department earlier this year, and Dodson offered to mentor her on the job but soon began telling her that he was attracted to her.

Longmont police investigated the case and allege that a search of the woman’s phone revealed 1,808 calls, 1,171 contacts and 831 chats between the two over a six-week period.

Dodson told police that he didn’t want a romantic relationship with the woman and said he only wanted to be friends.
