Lyons’ Board of Trustees is expected to vote on Thursday whether the proposed annexation of a piece of property owned by Planet Bluegrass will go to a special election later this year.

The board has voted once to send the measure to voters, and if it approves the measure a second time on Thursday, it will head to voters later this summer. The board tabled a second vote on the measure last month.

Owners of Planet Bluegrass — which puts on two large music festivals on a piece of property that is adjacent to the 25 acres proposed for annexation — say the move allows for additional parking and camping areas for the two festivals and eases the burden on Lyons during those festivals.

The move, however, is not wanted by some residents of Apple Valley, an area of unincorporated Boulder County that lies close to Planet Bluegrass, because residents say a problem already exists with traffic in the area, and annexing the property will only make matters worse.

There will be no public comment at the meeting, according to a news release, because public hearings were held on May 15. The meeting happens at 6 p.m. at Lyons Town Hall, 432 Fifth Ave. in Lyons.
