GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — Voters in Greenwood Village overwhelmingly decided against changing the city’s comprehensive plan to allow big redevelopment ideas to move forward in a special election Tuesday.

The station is just west of Interstate 25 and north of Orchard Road. The surrounding area currently is a business park.

Developers and city planners wanted to make it a mixed-use area with offices, homes and retail establishments.

To do that, they asked voters to change Greenwood Village’s comprehensive plan. Voters said no.

The city council approved the plan in March, then the mayor said he would veto it. Instead, the decision was given to voters.

Ballots went out last month and they were due back by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

This special election cost taxpayers about $36,000 to execute. There will be some redevelopment taking place in the area, just not on the scale that some wanted.
