DENVER—Lights are being dimmed on the giant, red-eyed, blue “Mustang” statue at Denver’s airport to draw attention to global warming.
In a statement on activities for Earth Hour on Saturday, Kim Day, Denver’s manager of aviation says the airport’s steps to reduce the world’s carbon footprint have included installing water bottle filling stations to encourage travelers to reuse plastic bottles. The airport also was designed to take advantage of natural light during the day. Day says the airport takes climate change seriously.
In addition to “Mustang” going dark for an hour starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, two main airport signs are being dimmed. The dimming will not affect operations.
Earth Hour is marked around the world, with millions expected turn out the lights to raise awareness about climate change.
